The Birds and the Bees 2.0.0 - Release
This version lives only on https://mingos.vercel.app/ and Patreon: https://patreon.com/mingos.
The Birds and the Bees is a standalone reproductive-health mod: menstrual cycles, birth control, pregnancy feelings, and the social life around them. This page describes the mod as it stands in 2.0.0: everything it does, and how to tune it.
If you’re returning from an earlier build, the Changed and Fixed sections near the end cover what has changed.
This release is the current, tested version, and the links above are always where the latest version lives. A copy from anywhere else is an older build and may behave differently from what these notes describe.
Mod Compatibility
- Supported Game Versions: 1.67 and higher
- Expansion Packs: None
Known Issues
- Your active sims (sims you’re currently playing) and their households always get the full reproductive system. Non-active sims and un-housed NPCs are set up when the mod can reach them, and a few edge-case NPCs may be skipped.
- If you use NRaas MasterController’s “Pollinate” to start a pregnancy on one of your household sims, it may not take, because it still runs through this mod’s fertility check. To make pregnancies started via Pollinate always stick, set Fertility Check Applies To (in the Birds and the Bees settings menu, under Features) to Off.
- This mod manages its own fertility model and will take over pregnancy chance from the base game. Therefore, it may conflict with other fertility or pregnancy-chance mods.
- The settings menu is English only for now, but the rest of the mod’s text is translatable.
About the content
This mod models pregnancy and reproductive choices from more than one perspective, and doesn’t take a position of its own. Toggles let you decide which parts are active in your game.
Features
➡️ The Settings menu
Everything the mod does can now be tuned in-game. Click a sim and open “Birds And The Bees…”. Your settings are saved with your game and persist across sessions.
The full Settings menu:
Cycle Settings
- Cycle length preset: Short, Normal (default), Long, Very Long, or Custom.
- Advanced: set each phase length in days manually (period, follicular, ovulation, luteal).
Fertility Settings
- Fertility level preset: Decreased, Realistic, Boosted (default), Extreme, or Custom.
- Advanced: set each phase’s fertility percentage by hand (menstruation, follicular, ovulation, luteal), plus menopause fertility for elders (default 0%).
Pregnancy Settings
- Pregnancy length in days (default 3).
- Parental leave: paid days off when a pregnancy is announced (default 5, up to 28; 0 turns it off).
- Miscarriage risk: check a pregnant sim’s current risk for this pregnancy.
- Pregnant waddle: show or hide the pregnant walk, for one sim or for all sims.
Birth Control Settings
- Birth control strictness: Forgiving, Realistic (default), or Strict. This preset sets how fast pill effectiveness builds and how much missing a pill costs.
Auto-Use
- Auto-take pills, for all sims or one sim (default off).
- Auto-Apply Products, for all sims or one sim (default off).
Features (turn whole systems on or off)
- Menstrual Cycle (default on).
- Contraception (default on).
- Miscarriage (default on), plus Miscarriage Frequency: Rare, Occasional, Realistic (default), or Frequent.
- Menopause for Elders (default on).
- Teen Reproductive System (default off). With this setting off, the mod ignores teens: no cycle, no fertility, none of the reproductive interactions. Those interactions return when they become young adults.
- Pregnancy in Travel Worlds (default off). In University, vacation, and future worlds the mod leaves those worlds’ own sims alone, and your household will not conceive there. A new home town is not affected.
- Allow Autonomous Abortions (default off; player-directed abortion is always available regardless).
- Fertility Check Applies To: Active Household (default), Everyone, or Off. Controls which pregnancies run through the fertility model. The default keeps pregnancies started outside your active household (Story Progression, other mods) from being cancelled; Off never cancels any conception.
- Debug mode, which reveals the tester tools below (default off).
Reset
- About (shows the version), and Reset All Settings to Defaults.
Per sim: Reproductive Outlook. Set on the sim, not in this menu. See the Reproductive Outlook feature below.
In Debug mode
- Fine birth-control tuning: ramp-up and ramp-down rates, missed-pill and late-pill penalties, consistency recovery, and the low-stock threshold.
- A miscarriage-risk override, a fertility-cancel notification toggle, and per-sim tools for cycles, pregnancy stages, and anatomy.
The fine birth-control controls (ramp rates, pill penalties, low-stock, and so on) stay behind Debug mode by design; the player-facing control is the Strictness preset, which sets them as a group.
➡️ Reproductive Outlook (per sim)
Each sim carries their own outlook on children and on ending a pregnancy, and it’s the input that several systems below read from (Partner feelings, Pregnancy feelings, and autonomous choices). Find it on the sim’s own menu under “Reproductive Health… > Reproductive Outlook…”.
- How Do I Feel About Having Children?: Does Not Want, Undecided, or Wants. Fixed once a pregnancy is confirmed.
- How Do I Feel About Ending a Pregnancy?: Would consider it, Undecided, or Would not, and how strongly that is held (Mild, Moderate, or Strong).
➡️ Partner feelings
A pregnancy is no longer only the pregnant sim’s. The other parent now has their own feeling about it, recorded per pregnancy.
- The partner’s feeling is set at conception from their Reproductive Outlook (how they feel about having children), and it holds for that pregnancy.
- If the pregnancy sits badly with them, they can come to terms with it in their own time. Acceptance builds up gradually through a “Come to Terms” interaction rather than flipping in one click.
- Reactions are graded by how close the two sims are and how the partner feels about children, so a caring partner is supportive whatever their general views, while a distant one may pull away.
- Partner-facing moodlets track it: told about the pregnancy, reassured, accepted it, or rejected it.
- A partner only reacts to a pregnancy they know about, so they have to be told first.
➡️ Pregnancy feelings
- Every pregnancy reads as wanted, unwanted, or undecided from the sim’s Reproductive Outlook, and the pregnancy moodlet reflects that through each trimester (a full set of first, second, and third-trimester moodlets for each stance).
- Fetal movement is felt differently depending on the stance: tender sensations for a wanted pregnancy and flatter, blunted ones for an unwanted or undecided one.
- Early first-trimester signs hint at a pregnancy before a test confirms it.
➡️ Parental leave
- The length is now a setting: 5 days by default, up to 28, or 0 to turn it off.
➡️ Period symptoms and menstrual products
- Symptoms roll across the cycle: cramps and bloating (with a brief physical reaction), a tiring drain on energy, and PMS moodlets (tender, on edge) in the days before.
- Flow runs Light, Normal, or Heavy, rolled for each period.
- Pads and tampons are sold by the box. A sim can use one by hand or automatically; each lasts about half a day, and going without risks a Stained Undergarments moment, cleared by a shower or bath.
- A sim can ask another sim for a pad from the Friendly menu.
- Effective birth control eases cramps and bloating and leans the flow lighter.
➡️ A deeper miscarriage experience
Miscarriage is now a system with its own arc.
- Each pregnancy carries a per-sim risk that is rolled once per trimester. About 1 in 25 sims is naturally more prone to miscarrying.
- When a pregnancy is at risk, the pregnant sim gets a warning and a window (about half a day) to reach the hospital for a save attempt, which is roughly an even chance by default.
- If the pregnancy is lost, the moodlet that follows reflects how the sim felt about it.
- A sim can tell others they had a miscarriage, and the listener’s response is graded by how close they are.
- Turning the Miscarriage feature off also rescues any pregnancy that is mid-warning.
➡️ Coming around to an unwanted child
An unwanted pregnancy can carry past the birth, and the parent can find their way through it.
- A parent who did not want the baby neglects the newborn’s needs and shows it with moodlets.
- Over time, they can turn the corner and bond, tracked through a range of moodlets (never wanted this, not ready for this, the new-baby reality, grew to love them, already attached).
- A “Come Around” interaction lets a parent who is ready make that turn.
➡️ Sims acting on their own
Sims can now act on their reproductive lives without being directed.
- Sims can now seek out appointments, ultrasounds, abortions, and birth classes themselves.
- Ending a pregnancy on their own has two gates. Per sim, it follows the “How Do I Feel About Ending a Pregnancy?” outlook (on the sim, under Reproductive Health… > Reproductive Outlook…): a sim only considers it when that outlook is set to “Would consider it” and held strongly. Globally, it must be allowed by the “Allow Autonomous Abortions” setting, which is off by default. Player-directed choices, abortion included, are always available whatever the settings say.
- Sims only set out on these appointments during office hours, so no one heads to the hospital in the middle of the night.
➡️ Menopause and sterilization
- Elder sims can enter menopause, which stops their cycle and drops their fertility. It is age-driven and reversible, a global toggle, and the menopause fertility level is itself a setting. The game’s own block on elder pregnancy still applies unless it is lifted by NRaas Woohooer or similar.
- Sterilization is available for both sexes, as a tubal ligation or a vasectomy, for sims who want a permanent option.
➡️ More at the hospital
The Office of Reproductive Services now goes well beyond ultrasound, abortion, and birth-control services.
- New services: counseling, birth class, early-parenthood class, prenatal screening, and a fertility specialist.
- Appointments ask for payment up front, can be cancelled once booked, and vary their wording by visit and by pregnancy stage. Classes and screenings leave their own moodlets.
- Sims can ask another sim to come along to an appointment, and they both route into the hospital.
- Sims can also choose to attend some appointments on their own.
➡️ Free products to pick up
Sims can pick up free condoms, pads, and tampons on their own, from the school nurse’s office or the clinic. It is open to anyone, so protection is within reach without a shopping trip.
➡️ Order products from your phone
Sims can order reproductive products from a smartphone instead of making the trip to a store.
➡️ Auto-Use
Sims can look after the routine on their own, mirroring the Auto-Use settings above.
- A sim can take their birth-control pills automatically, so a prescription is kept up without a click each time.
- A sim on their period can use a pad or tampon automatically.
- Both are off by default, and a low-stock warning tells you when a sim is running low on pills.
➡️ Cycle Tracker
A phone app that reads out where a sim is in their cycle, so you can see the current phase and fertility at a glance.
➡️ Talking about it
The social side of a pregnancy got its own layer of interactions.
- A sim can announce a pregnancy, and the reaction depends on the listener’s closeness and their views, from warm to awkward to cold, with matching joy or distress moments.
- Sims can ask another sim how they feel about having children.
- Emergency contraception now carries its own aftermath, as relief or as regret.
Changed and Rebalanced
(The Settings section above lists every preset and default; this section is just what changed since 1.0.0.)
- Almost everything is adjustable now. Cycle length, fertility, pregnancy length, birth-control strictness, miscarriage frequency, and menopause all became settings, where 1.0.0 ran on fixed values.
- The cycle and fertility defaults were retuned from 1.0.0 (the cycle now ships as a balanced 10-day Normal; fertility ships on Boosted).
- Birth-control pills now build up instead of a flat failure rate: effectiveness climbs with consistent, on-time use and drops when a pill is missed or late. Effective birth control also eases period symptoms.
- Condoms: about a 2% failure rate, down from 5%.
- Infertility: affects about 4% of sims, down from 5%.
- Miscarriage is now a per-sim risk rolled once per trimester (about 1 in 25 sims is more prone), with a frequency setting, in place of the single fixed rate.
- The pregnancy social interactions were rebuilt. Reactions are graded by how close two sims are and how they feel, instead of fixed one-liners, and the parent-role layer is now partner-based and role-neutral (see Partner feelings). A few older socials were retired.
- Outside pregnancies are no longer cancelled silently. The new Fertility Check setting (Active Household by default) keeps Story-Progression, MasterController, and other-mod pregnancies from being re-rolled away. It replaces the old Allow All Pregnancies switch.
Fixed
- The mod is now adjustable in-game, where 1.0.0 ran on fixed values you couldn’t change.
- Reproductive preferences no longer reset when you exit. How a sim feels about children, and about ending a pregnancy, is now saved with your game and carries across sessions.
- Reproductive data now persists correctly across households, so sims keep their state between sessions.
- Orphaned data left behind by moved or deleted sims is cleaned up when a save loads.
- A custom pregnancy length now sticks across a reload instead of reverting.
- Cycle moodlets clear properly when a pregnancy begins instead of lingering.
- The ovulation moodlet no longer carries into a pregnancy.
- Grocery-store products no longer duplicate after travel. The mod’s store items used to stack up each time a sim visited another world.
Performance and Stability
- World loads are faster, especially in a full town.
- Long play sessions stay smoother, without the slowdown that used to build up over time.
- Fewer crashes when quitting to the menu, traveling between worlds, or reloading a save.
- Fixed a couple of issues that could stop sims from loading in a save.
- Plus a range of smaller stability fixes around pregnancy, birth, and loading.

Contact
I build this mod solo, on my own time. Keeping some distance from the community is what lets me keep doing this, so I don’t take feature requests or field general questions. This mod is provided as-is, with no warranty. Use it at your own risk; I’m not responsible for any problems it may cause in your game or saves.
With that said, the two things that reach me are a well-documented bug report and a translation. Translations are welcome even though the license is otherwise strict: send me one and I may fold it into the mod, with credit to you. If a report isn’t well-documented, there’s usually nothing I can do with it, so it’s worth getting it right the first time.
